pianist, composer, teacher

about

As a pianist, Jim is comfortable in the worlds of jazz, pop, and concert music. He has performed throughout the United States in venues as diverse as Walt Disney World, the San Francisco Improv Festival, and Kitty Hawk, NC, the site of the Wright Brothers' first flight.

As a composer, Jim writes music that is accessible yet compelling. Whether writing for the concert hall or creating arrangements for theme parks, Jim wants his music to be well crafted, enjoyable, and interesting.

As a teacher, Jim is currently Assistant Professor of Theory and Composition at Ball State University. Previously, he has taught at the high school and middle school level. He has degrees in theory and composition from Ball State University and Central Michigan University, and a degree in choral music education from Florida State University.

When not doing music, Jim can often be found running, eating, creating sausage and/or smoked meat, and enjoying his family.

Here you will find some scores (and recordings, often icky MIDI).

All pieces are PostcardWare. I’ll happily send you PDFs of the score and parts, but you have to promise (or pinky swear, if you prefer) to send me a postcard from your home town or city after the performance. Maybe a card with a picture showing something iconic about your area. Or a cute animal. Landscapes are nice, too.
